Monday Message 3-31

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!!

In math, we are finishing learning about fractions today and taking a short quiz tomorrow. Be sure to check the blog for anchor charts! On the quiz, students will be asked to name fractions, find equivalent fractions, and compare and order fractions. Next we will begin our unit on measurement. Students will learn how to measure with a ruler, understand inches, feet, yards, and miles.

In reading, we are continuing to learn about Close Reading and using R.A.P.P for constructed response questions. This week we will start to focus on facts versus opinion.

In writing, we are going to begin to study different grammar skills and writing mechanics. We will be working on skills such as punctuating dialogue and capitalizing proper nouns.

Learning Strategy of the week: Prove your answer using evidence from the text.

There is a STPG meeting on Tuesday at 6:15 in the library.
Potential BOE candidates will be in attendance.  Please wear Sappington gear to the meeting. 

Blood drive is in the cafeteria on Thursday. The  School Store is also on Thursday.

Monday Message 3-24

I hope everyone had a great spring break! We are excited to start fourth quarter!

We will have Spring Pictures this Friday!

The learning strategy of the week is to examine every answer choice before you choose your answer.

In math, we are beginning our unit on fractions. We will learn how to read, write, compare, and order fractions. Be looking for anchor charts on the blog this week! I will be sending home a new Hamby Homework and math fact logs.

In reading, we are continuing to work on finding the main idea and supporting details as well as working on close reading and constructed response questions. 

In writing, we are going to celebrate our informational nonfiction stories. I am so proud of all of the hard work that the students put into their writing!

In social studies the students are learning about the Civil War. They will be finding the main idea and supporting details of the war.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Quarter 3 end Friday, and Spring Break starts next week, March 17th.

Friday, March 14, is a half day. No lunch will be served this day.

In math, we have finished our Division unit and are beginning to work on Probability. We will predict and record outcomes and talk about possible outcomes. Please be sure to look at the blog for anchor charts. There will be a short quiz on Friday. I will send home the study guide on Wednesday.

In reading, we are continuing to work on finding the main idea of a text. We are still working on close reading and using think marks while reading.

In writing, we are editing and revising our Historical Informational Books. Our goal is to be published by the end of the week!

In social studies, we are finishing our historical fiction book on slavery. The books are turning out so well!

In science, the students are continuing to learn about matter. They will be focusing on mixtures and solutions this week.
